Start to notice something you’re not thrilled with around your neck or jaw? Trust us, we’ve heard it all. Jowls. Neck lines. Double chin. Turkey neck. Sagging skin. No matter what you call it, this small area can add years to our overall appearance!
It’s also one of the most challenging aesthetic concerns to treat non-surgically.
Often, sagging skin is simply a byproduct of the body’s natural aging process. When you’re younger, your body produces plenty of collagen and elastin (fibers that create the structure for your skin). However, around your 30s production slows, and without that strong framework, your skin falls with the effects of gravity.
Luckily, a combination of aesthetic treatments, professional skincare products, and the proper medical guidance can help you rejuvenate your neck and jawline to keep you looking as young as you feel—without the need for surgery.
At TLJ Aesthetics MD in Issaquah, we take a multi-modality approach to jawline contouring and neck tightening, and customize it for each individual patients’ needs.
Here are the 6 steps we take to achieve neck tightening, or what we call a “non-surgical neck lift.”
The best way to maintain results from aesthetic treatments and to keep your skin glowing and healthy is with medical-grade skincare products. This is especially true for the skin on your neck!
Medical-grade products like those offered at our practice consist of high-quality ingredients at higher levels of concentration than you would be able to find in any drugstore or department store product.
Introducing these types of products into your morning and nightly routine long-term will not only help prepare your jawline and neck for tightening treatments, they can also help you maintain your results afterward.
One of our favorite products for the jawline and neck is the Alastin Restorative Neck Complex. It contains a combination of peptides and botanicals proven to stimulate both collagen and elastin, essentially recycling old fragments of these fibers whose optimal function is necessary for the healthy and youthful appearance of the skin.
By simply adding this product to your routine with two small pumps in the morning and two at night, you can significantly improve your chances of achieving a tighter, firmer skin beneath the chin!
Sometimes the skin below the jaw and chin can appear lower than it should because of enlarged fat cells (more commonly known as a double chin). In order to contour the jawline and tighten the neck, we first have to reduce this fat. The problem is, even with weight loss, this area can be quite stubborn to treat!
That’s where step two comes in: Kybella. It’s the only FDA-approved injectable to remove the fat cells beneath the chin to prevent the storing of fat in this area. Its active ingredient mimics deoxycholic acid, a substance found naturally within the body which helps break down fat and flush it out as waste.. We typically perform Kybella over a series of multiple appointments consisting of between 20 to 30 microinjections each.
Once we remove these fat cells, we can better understand how to treat the skin in this area to help it appear as smooth and tight as possible.
Although designed as a wrinkle treatment, the HALO laser can also be one of the most effective tools we have for neck tightening in Issaquah.
Halo uses a combination of ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to both remove the top layer of skin AND gently stimulate new collagen production beneath the surface of the skin, respectively.
This process significantly reduces fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, and laxity. In 1 to 3 treatments, you should notice a “mini lift” effect in addition to the improvement of your skin’s overall quality!
After we work with a patient to reach the best possible results with Halo, we move on to the next step in the neck tightening process.
SkinTyte is a great in-office procedure to:
SkinTyte uses specific filters of BroadBand Light (BBL) energy, similar to an IPL Photofacial, to coagulate soft tissue beneath the skin’s surface. This has an anti-aging effect that actually reaches a cellular level—after continued treatments with BBL technology, we notice patients’ skin actually appears to age in reverse!
This is especially helpful for the chin and neck, where excess skin tends to reside. It can also firm up the skin along the jaw to treat and prevent further sagging.
The treatment itself is relatively painless; it feels like a warming sensation around the treatment area. That means no downtime after your appointment.
Most times, we recommend an initial series of 5 SkinTyte treatments to achieve the best results. However, you may need more or less depending on the severity of the sagging or laxity of your skin.
As one of our most popular treatments (included in our membership packages!) Botox is a great follow-up neck tightening treatment after your initial series of SkinTyte.
Botox is an injectable that can help relax neck lines, neck cords, chin wrinkles, and jowls for a smoother, less pronounced appearance.
It can also relax the muscles that clench the jaw and grind the teeth, which can cause headaches and worsens TMJ Syndrome. Relaxing those muscles helps further soften the jawline. We can also use Botox to achieve a subtle “lifting” effect along the structures of the upper neck to refine platysmal bands.
To help refine and touch-up your final look, we can artfully apply dermal fillers to help further lift and fill specific areas of the neck, chin, and jawline. This is where the “contouring” of the process truly happens.
Using fillers like Juvederm Voluma, RHA4, and Versa for some patients, we help enhance your natural features and lift the skin for a refreshed look that takes years off of your overall appearance.
When is the best time to start neck tightening treatments?
In Issaquah, it’s typically best to start laser treatments like HALO and BBL in the spring or fall, as most people do not want to avoid sun exposure in the summertime.
That said, we are able to perform any of the above neck tightening treatments at any time of the year so long as you follow proper aftercare!
I just experienced significant weight loss. Can I get a nonsurgical face or neck lift?
In the spirit of transparency, not all patients are suitable candidates for a nonsurgical neck lift. After weight loss, some patients find the skin on their neck and jowls (just below the cheeks) sag more than before because the fat cells have shrunk and do not provide as much of a natural lift. However, there is only so much superficial tightening we can do in this area.
What age is the best for getting nonsurgical neck tightening treatments?
Gravity, lifestyle, family history, and even diet can affect the laxity of our skin. Some people don’t notice sagging skin until they’re in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Others start to be bothered by this area as early as their 20s! The good news is, neck tightening treatments are not limited by age. Even patients in their 70s benefit from these treatments!
What other benefits would I see from the neck tightening process?
In addition to tightening of the neck and contouring of the jawline, all of the above treatments can help improve your skin’s overall quality! The results of Halo alone include improved texture, lines, wrinkles, pore size, brown spots, and red spots.
How do I know which neck tightening treatments I need?
Great question! Although we find that all of the above treatments in tandem will achieve the best possible results for our patients in Issaquah; there are endless ways to customize this regimen for your unique needs.
